【Price of Weed】Underground vs Under controlled.
The price Of weed worldwide
Weed is one of the most commonly used psychotropic drugs in the world, after alcohol which is legal in most countries. However, weed prices worldwide differ dramatically depending on factors like where you’re buying it and the quality you’re getting.
Generally, weed prices in places where marijuana is legal tend to be much lower than in places where it’s bought under the radar.
For instance, the cost of weed in Latin American countries is significantly low, with Panama at $10.6 per gram and Brazil at $0.25 per gram as of 2018. Comparably, the price of a gram of weed in the far east countries is quite high, with Tokyo, Japan at the top of the list with $32.66 per gram!
Let’s take a look at how they are traded internationally.
In different cities across the world
Seedo, a German hydroponics company, recently published the 2018 Cannabis Price Index. This data was compiled using information gathered from the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
And according to Seedo, the aim of the research is ‘to illustrate the steady need for legislative reform regarding cannabis use around the world’ and ‘to determine if there are any lessons that can be learned from cities in the front line of marijuana legalization.’
During the study, 120 cities across the world were selected. These included places where marijuana is currently legal, illegal, and partially legal.
The company developed a framework to calculate the possible tax revenues a city might make by legalizing weed. This involved comparing cannabis taxes in places where weed is legal with the tax imposed on cigarette.
Further research was conducted to determine the price of weed per gram in these cities.
The average amount of cannabis consumed every year in metric tons in each city was calculated using an equation that takes into account the total population, consumption prevalence, and the estimated total weed consumption in grams per year.
The findings were compared with the statistical data published in the 2017 World Drug Report by the UNODC.
